I’m a light packer. I pack what’s needed and usually bring a week’s worth of clothes for a longer trip. Hotels, hostels and luxury vacation spots all have laundy in some form or another. Read through this list and let me know your thoughts. Do you overpack? Underpack? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Versatile Clothing. Pack a mix of outfits that can be easily mixed and matched to suit various occasions and weather conditions.Opt for neutral colors to maximize outf it combinations.
  2. Comfortable Shoes.
    – Bring a pair of comfortable closed-toe walking shoes for sightseeing and exploring.
    – Include a pair of comfortable flats or sandals for evenings or alternate daytime wear.
  3. Accessories. Consider packing scarves, ties, or belts to add flair to your outfits and transition from day to night effortlessly.
  4. Sun Protection. Don’t forget to pack essentials like a hat, sunglasses, and high SPF sunscreen to protect yourself from the sun’s rays. The sun can be deceptively strong, especially in Central America and northern South America.
  5. Rain Protection. Be prepared for unexpected showers by packing a foldable raincoat, travel umbrella, or rain poncho.
  6. Day Bags. Carry a lightweight, waterproof bag with ample pockets to hold your daily essentials like water bottles, sunscreen, and cameras.
  7. Toiletries.
    – Opt for travel-sized toiletry bottles to save space and reduce waste.
    – Consider solid toiletries like shampoo bars and toothpaste tabs to minimize liquid items. You may not even need these at all! Ask your hotel.
  8. Medical Kit (great for solo travelers on long trips). Pack a small medical kit with essentials like prescription medications, painkillers, hand sanitizer, and first aid items.
  9. Reusable Water Bottle. Bring a reusable water bottle to reduce plastic waste and stay hydrated during your travels.
  10. Documents. Don’t forget your passport, vaccination card, and any necessary travel documents for a smooth journey. Make sure to make photo copies and place them in a separate location from the originals, such as a hotel safe, hidden compartment in your luggage or front desk deposit box. 
  11. Electronics. Pack essential electronics like cell phones, chargers, adapters, and cameras to capture memorable moments.
  12. Comfort Items. Consider bringing earplugs, a sleep mask, and a travel pillow for a comfortable journey and restful nights.
  13. Clothing Tips.
    – Choose clothing items that can be easily layered for changing weather conditions.
    – Opt for quick-drying fabrics and versatile pieces that can be dressed up or down.

Essential clothing items include versatile and lightweight scarves, fashionable hats, stylish sunglasses, and carefully selected jewelry. These accessories can add a pop of color to your outfits, provide warmth when needed, and can even be used as a stylish head covering for visits to religious sites. For practical essentials, consider packing a secure crossbody bag or backpack, a travel wallet with RFID-blocking technology, and comfortable walking shoes.

Dresses are a go-to option for European travel as they offer both style and versatility. When selecting clothing items, opt for lightweight fabrics and flattering silhouettes that suit your personal style. Don’t forget to consider the likely weather and requirements for churches when packing your clothing
