Travelers can utilize busses and flights to get to other parts of the country.

Peru is evolving as a welcoming destination for LGBTQ+ travelers, with inclusive cities like Lima and Cusco offering some of the most LGBTQIA+-safe environments in South America. However, the area can be conservative:
- Like many other Latin American countries, Peru is a deeply Catholic country and visitors may lean towards discretion.
- While the younger population has grown more accepting, the generational differences can be quite palpable.
- Anti-gay discrimination was banned in 2017.
- Same-sex unions became legal in 2023 but marriage is still not recognized.
- Thousands participate in Lima’s Gay Pride Parade each June.

High season (most crowded, higher costs) is from June through August. This is the dry season in the Andes and eastern rainforest. It also offers the most options for festivals and sports.
Shoulder season (moderate crowds) run from September through November and March through May. This is the most ideal times to deal with less crowds. The highlands see spring and fall weather. September to November are generally good times for rainforest trekking.
Low season is generally December through February. While this is the best time for coastal areas and beach activities, it’s raining in almost every other area of the country. The rainy season takes place in both the Andean Highlands and the (very wet) Amazon Basin rainforests. The Inca Trail is closed in February.
